Coxsackie coffee shop welcomes new owners

COXSACKIE, N.Y. (NEWS10)– In early September, a specialty coffee shop and café in Coxsackie announced it would be closing. However, new owners are looking to keep the Greater Things Roasters business alive, with their own roasts.

On October 8, the new owners, Jill and Ray of Divergent Coffee, announced that they would be taking over the business.

“Our mission to serve you the best coffee and yummy treats isn’t changing one bit—if anything, we’re leveling up your café experience,” the announcement said.

Divergent Coffee was founded in 2016 and primarily sold a variety of roasts throughout the Hudson Valley. Under the new ownership, Divergent Coffee will have a permanent location and will offer improved prices, new menu options and special discounts.

“You know that magical feeling of that first cup of coffee in the morning? We totally get it! Our goal is to create a cozy vibe that feels like home, whether you’re swinging by for your morning pick-me-up, need a place to focus on some work or hanging out with friends for some quality time,” the announcement continued.

Greater Things Roasters was created in 2020 by Wayne and Kerri Flach and was sold to Brittany Coons in 2022. Coons was looking to close the business in September to focus on her family.

“Similar to my predecessors, I’ve had two incredible children since acquiring this business. As I watch them grow and mature, it becomes harder to spend more time on coffee and less time with them,” Coons stated. “After much reflection and trying every possible alternative imaginable, I’ve made the very difficult decision to step away from GTR and focus on my family.”

Under the new management, Greater Things Roasters will continue to offer a variety of hot and cold drinks, seasonal flavors, and offer muffins, bagels, oatmeal, croissants as well as lunch options.

The coffee shop is located at 10 Hope Plaza and will be open every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
