Clifton Park man accused of endangering welfare of disabled person

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Clifton Park man was arrested for allegedly causing harm to a person he was taking care of. According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Barry, 67, is accused of acting in a manner likely to be injurious to a person with a disability.

On Thursday, around 11:48 a.m. deputies reported receiving an adult abuse complaint on Longwood Drive in Clifton Park. Deputies said the report claimed Barry was causing harm to the physical, mental or moral health of a person who was unable to care for themselves because of a physical or mental disability.

“The conditions the victim had to endure were nothing short of appalling,” Sheriff Michael
Zurlo said. “It has been said that the true measure of any society is in how it treats its
most vulnerable members. We will always protect those who need it most and speak for
those who cannot do so themselves.”

Barry was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.

He was released to pretrial services pending further proceedings, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the home was later condemned by the Town of Clifton Park code enforcement officer.
