(FOX 5/KUSI) — The Carlsbad City Council approved this October the final design for public art coming to Veterans Memorial Park.
“The Ring,” as it will be known, is a circular design meant to symbolize “the enduring nature of duty, unity and remembrance,” according to the city.
The piece is almost twice as tall as a person and allows people to walk through it.
The artwork was designed by Gordon Huether Studios and will be on the park’s upper plateau, which provides views of the ocean and lagoon.
Along with The Ring, a separate Veterans Memorial Plaza will be installed, with a flagpole, platform, benches and military inscriptions and panels. The plaza will be on the park’s lower level, in the northwest area.
According to the city, staff will prepare a contract and bring it to the council for approval at a future meeting. Construction is expected to start in 2026 and take about two years to finish.
Once built, Veterans Memorial Park will be the city’s largest park. It will be located near the corner of Faraday Avenue and Cannon Road.
