Capital Region libraries celebrate fall with book sales

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — It’s almost the time of year to snuggle up with a nice blanket and book, and anyone looking to expand their book collection for a reasonable price is in luck. Libraries around the Capital Region are gearing up for fall book sales for all the local bookworms.

While all of the sales include gently used books, some sales have special discount days for readers to take advantage of. From a Dime Day to stuffing grocery bags full of books for $5, each book sale has something different for readers of all ages.

Albany County

Colonie Library

The Colonie Library’s Annual Fall Book Sale kicks off on Thursday, September 25, and is the only day of the sale that includes a $5 entry fee. The sale features gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and more.

Most items are priced at $1. On Sunday, anyone who attends the book sale can participate in a bag sale for $5.

  • Thursday, September 25- 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, September 26- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 27- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 28- 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Bethlehem Public Library

The Friends of the Bethlehem Public Library’s fall book sale begins on Saturday, September 27, in the library’s plaza. Book purchases are cash only with a suggested donation.

  • Saturday, September 27- 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Columbia County

Claverack Free Library

The Claverack Free Library will host a fall book sale during the second weekend of October. Kicking off on Friday, October 10, with an exclusive presale, the library is still deciding the sale’s hours of operation, so check back for updates.

Greene County

Cairo Public Library

The Cairo Public Library will host a Mega Book Sale on September 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the sale, all children’s books are two for $1, and all adult books are $1.

Saratoga County

Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library

The Friends of Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library will host a used book sale, which starts on Friday, September 26, at 11:45 a.m. for members only. The sale will open to the general public at 1 p.m. on Friday, and Sunday is a dime day sale.

  • Friday, September 26- 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (members only), 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (general public)
  • Saturday, September 27- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 28- 12:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Ballston Community Public Library

The Friends of Ballston Community Public Library in Burnt Hills will host a fall book sale, which kicks off on Tuesday, September 16. The sale features gently used books, games, puzzles, and more.

  • Tuesday, September 16- 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 17- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 18- 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday, September 19- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 20- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Schenectady County

Schenectady County Public Library

The Friends of Schenectady County Public Library will host a fall book sale on the weekend of September 27. All books are $1 or less, and readers can expect a $4 bag sale on Sunday, September 28.

  • Saturday, September 27- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, September 28- Noon to 3 p.m.

Rensselaer County

East Greenbush Community Library

The Friends of East Greenbush Community Library’s book and media sale kicks off on October 10 in the library’s meeting room. The sale has used books, DVDs, audiobooks, and prizes for kids and adults.

The sale accepts both cash and card, and Sunday features a $5 bag sale. The proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

  • Saturday, October 11- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 12- 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Warren County

Crandall Public Library

The Friends of Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls will have a fall book sale in October. Starting on October 24, the library will have several donated books to sort through.

  • Friday, October 24- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 25- 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
