‘Candyland' house in Chicago featured on HGTV's ‘Ugliest House in America'

A standout home known as the “Candyland house” in a North Side Chicago neighborhood has been featured in HGTV’s “Ugliest House in America” series.

The new season of the design network’s show dropped Wednesday night and featured a colorful Rogers Park staple.

The owners of the home, who go by the social media handle @homoswithhammers, announced their HGTV appearance on Instagram this week.

“THE CATS OUT OF THE BAG!!” the couple wrote. “Remember that time we went MIA for months and hinted at something BIG? Well, the wait is over! We’re beyond thrilled to announce we’re on @hgtv !!! This wild ride has us pinching ourselves – who would’ve thought we’d be on tv and meet @unforettable !! Tune in to the newest season of #ugliesthouseinamerica this Wednesday!”

“Ugliest House in America” features actress and comedian Retta on a “quest to find the country’s undiscovered ugly.”

This season, Retta goes inside 15 properties “with shockingly bad designs, cringe-worthy layouts and grossly outdated styles.”

“Based on its ugly appearance, awkward factor and most surprising feature,” one of the homes featured this season will be crowned the “ugliest house in America” by HGTV. The winner will receive a $150,000 renovation completed by former ‘Windy City Rehab” designer Alison Victoria.

The Candyland house was purchased by the Chicago couple in 2022 and they have been documenting their renovation journey ever since. Their social media presence had been notably “MIA” in recent months due to the show.

“We have (and had) a lot of things going on since about October of last year. Some things we will talk about, some things other things we can’t talk about, and stuff still to come. We’ll have all the good and bad updates soon!” they wrote on their account.
