SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) – A new splash pad is coming to Imperial Beach’s Portwood Pier Plaza, and the Port of San Diego is taking applications from artists interested in designing artwork for it.
Approved back in April 2024, construction for the $1.8 million water feature is anticipated to begin in early 2026 and finish by the end of the year.
It is part of a larger pier beautification project led by the Port and the City of Imperial Beach.
Professional artists located in San Diego, Imperial, Orange and Riverside Counties are encouraged to apply until Oct. 24, 2025.
The Port said it is looking for welcoming art that creates a feeling of belonging.
