Caleb Williams sets Bears' single-season passing record Sunday

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has broken a team record that’s stood for decades, setting the new mark for single-season passing yards.

Williams broke the single-season record on a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jahdae Walker during Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. After a two-point conversion, the Bears trailed the Lions 16-8.

Williams had one of the best games of his NFL career against the 49ers last week when he threw for 330 yards, which put him in range of the team’s single-season record, which had been set in 1995.

Williams entered Sunday’s game against the Lions with 3,730 passing yards on the season, the third-best total of any Bears quarterback.

His performance against Detroit pushed him past Erik Kramer on the single-season list, after Kramer threw for 3,838 yards for the Bears in 1995.

Williams’ season has also been marked by other achievements, as he led the Bears to their first divisional title since 2018 and their first playoff berth since 2020. He also became just the fourth Bears quarterback to throw for 25 touchdown passes in a single season.
