Caleb Williams joins investment group backing NWSL's Boston Legacy FC

CHICAGO (WGN) — Caleb Williams is invested in becoming an all-time great on the football field. Whether that becomes reality is up to him and the football gods, but off the field, he’s turned his attention toward investing in another type of football.

Women’s professional fútbol, to be specific.

The Boston Legacy Football Club, the soon-to-be newest addition to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), announced that Williams and his investment firm, 888 Meidas, joined the team’s investment group on Thursday. Boston Legacy FC will kick off its inaugural season in 2026 as the 15th team in the NWSL.

“Women’s sports is a movement, and I admire and respect the work that the team and the NWSL continues to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes,” Williams said. “Boston Legacy Football Club is building something special, and we’re proud to be a part of what’s next.”

With Williams’ addition to the Boston Legacy FC investment group, he joins a who’s who list of other notable professional athletes, front office personnel, and celebrities backing the club. Three-time Olympic gold medalist Aly Raisman, actress Elizabeth Banks, Boston Celtics General Manager Brad Stevens and his wife, Tracy, and most recently, Aliyah Boston, an All-Star center for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, are also members of the investment group.

“Caleb’s investment in Boston Legacy Football Club highlights the powerful momentum of women’s professional soccer and what it means to have professional athletes investing in our future,” said Jennifer Epstein, Controlling Owner of Boston Legacy Football Club. “It symbolizes a new era of cross-league support and recognition.

“With best-in-class athletes, a rapidly growing fan base, and undeniable energy around the NWSL, we are proud to welcome Caleb as a partner as we prepare for the 2026 inaugural season.”

Williams continues to build his investment portfolio off the gridiron.

Less than three weeks earlier in September, Williams and Meidas 888 announced a strategic partnership with Fruitist, a berry-based healthy snack company, whose products are available in over 12,500 retail locations across North America, including Costco, Giant, Publix, ShopRite, Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Wakefern, Walmart, Whole Foods, and more.

“From a young age, I’ve always believed that what you put in your body fuels how you show up, on and off the field,” Williams said. “Fruitist is a company with intention and a mission that I believe in, with the traction to back it up. With 888 Midas, we are proud to invest in better, smarter, and healthier options for the next generation and to help bring these berries to fans everywhere.”

Founded in 2024, 888 Midas focuses on early to growth-stage companies positioned to lead in the consumer, health and wellness, sports, media, and entertainment sectors. The firm provides a unique platform for athlete and advisor-led investing across private equity, venture capital, real estate, and real estate alternative assets, according to a press release from the investment firm.
