CAIRO, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Cairo-Durham Central School District voters will soon determine the outcome of a proposed $19 million capital improvement project. According to the district, the vote will be held on December 9 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The district said the project was developed in response to the building condition survey. It is designed to create modern, safe and lasting learning spaces for students focusing on three areas including longevity, health and safety and programmatic excellence.
The total improvement project is expected to cost $19,085,000.
Elementary School upgrades:
- Reconstruct foundation walls undermined by stormwater and site conditions, including regrading and pavement work
- Repair existing plaster ceiling in the gym/auditorium due to water damage, requiring scaffolding
- Repair concrete stairs and ramps at both the front entrance and rear drop-off area
- Site replacement of the buried fuel oil tank
Middle School/High School upgrades:
- Deliver a comprehensive face life in the auditorium, including new lighting, seating and wall finishes
- Site replacement of the buried fuel oil tank
- Restore the full roof at the middle and high schools to eliminate leaks and replace existing drains
- Replace 29 existing ventilator units, improving air circulation, indoor air quality and HVAC performance
The district will be holding two public forum question and answer sessions for community members to learn more about the project. The sessions will be held on Wednesday, November 5 at 6 p.m. in the Elementary School and on November 18 at 6 p.m. in the Middle/High School.
The December 9 vote will be held in the middle and high school Distance Learning Center.
