DENVER (KDVR) — Just days ago, the Denver Broncos activated linebacker Dre Greenlaw from injured reserve after he missed six weeks of the season due to a thigh injury.
On Monday, the NFL announced it was suspending Greenlaw for one game due to unsportsmanlike conduct after the team’s nail-biting 33-32 win over the New York Giants on Sunday. The specific rule prohibits the “use of abusive, threatening or insulting language or gestures to opponents, teammates, officials, or representatives of the League.”
“After the conclusion of the Giants-Broncos game, Greenlaw chased after referee Brad Allen and verbally threatened him as he tried to leave the field,” the NFL stated in its announcement.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapaport heard from a source that Greenlaw will appeal the suspension, and has three days to do so.
Greenlaw, 28, signed a three-year, $31.5 million contract in this last offseason after playing for six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. In his debut for Denver on Sunday, Greenlaw had six tackles.
If Greenlaw is unable to appeal his suspension, he will be miss Denver’s Week 8 game against the Dallas Cowboys, but would be eligible to return to the Broncos’ active roster as of Oct. 27.
