Brockton man accused of photographing women and children at YMCA facing 21 additional charges

A Brockton man is facing 21 additional charges in connection to his arrest for allegedly taking pictures of women and children at an East Bridgewater YMCA locker room.

Abidan Rivera, 43, was originally arrested and charged in March and pleaded guilty to the initial charges in May.

Police say while going through Rivera’s phone, investigators found 17 more inappropriate photos.

“It’s horrendous,” Jennifer Sullivan said, who visits the YMCA. “It’s disgusting, vile.”

“I’m really surprised that it was going on so close to my house and somewhere you’re supposed to be comfortable going to,” Shira McCormack said, who lives nearby.

Police say the newly discovered photos are of both women and children, nude and unaware they were being photographed.

“It’s frightening. My children go to that Y. I’ve been working out at that Y forever. The staff and community should be able to have a place where they can safely do their exercises and take their children,” Sullivan said.

He’s currently being held at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility.
