Body found after rowhomes fire in East Germantown on Tuesday

The body of a person was found on Tuesday evening after a rowhomes fire lit up the skies over Philadelphia’s East Germantown neighborhood earlier in the day.

Relatives of a 70-year-old woman said she was the person unaccounted for after the fire, but NBC10 has not been able to confirm that it was her body was found.

In all, up to five rowhomes appeared to be damaged from the fire, but the rowhome where the fire is believed to have began has the most damage.

A firefighter was also injured in the fire and is now listed in stable condition, officials said.

Investigators were unable to go inside the home for most of the day because it was too dangerous, but crews were able to shore up the building once the fire was put out so they could go inside.

NBC10’s SkyForce10 was over the fire at about 11:15 a.m., which showed smoke pouring from a home along the 5700 block of North Lambert Street as firefighters worked to extinguish flames there.

Relatives of some of the victims told NBC10 that the woman missing is a 70-year-old beloved mother. However, they were holding out hope that she was not inside when the fire erupted on Tuesday afternoon.

“Her older son, he was in the home,” said family member Denisha Addison. “He smelled smoke he got out. He did not go upstairs because he was not even aware she was even there. So, it could be a possibility that she have left. But we’ve been calling her, calling her phone and no one has answered yet.”

The American Red Cross said they are helping 12 people effected from the fire.

Also, officials did not immediately say what may have started this fire.

But, NBC10 is working to learn more.

This is a breaking news story. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
