The last time Kyler Gordon was supposed to face the Packers, he hurt his groin during warmups at Lambeau Field, was held out for the game and wound up spending a month on injured reserve.
Saturday night went better, even if it wasn’t perfect.
The Bears’ slot cornerback didn’t start the Bears’ playoff game against the same Packers but earned increasing playing time as the contest went on. It was his first appearance after coming off IR hours earlier.
“I was just more comfortable with my feet underneath me …” he said Wednesday. “So just the more the game went on, the better I felt.”
Gordon said he was sore after the game. After missing all but three regular-season games because of various injuries this year, he said he was “extremely happy” to contribute. The string of injuries had been hard for him to cope with.
“I thought it was cool that — because I was supposed to play at that Green Bay game, it was supposed to be such a big rivalry game — to come back and play that, that same type of one,” he said. “And it’d be for even bigger stakes.”
Notes
• Bears cornerback Nick McCloud (groin) and Rams cornerback Darious Williams (personal) were the only two players listed as out on Wednesday’s estimated injury report. Both teams held walk-throughs instead of practices. Bears receivers DJ Moore (knee) and Rome Odunze (foot) and linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin were all listed as questionable.
• Former Bears Olin Kreutz and Jerry Azumah were among the 18 players named to the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame. Azumah became the first-ever FCS player to run for at least 1,000 yards four times before the Bears moved him to cornerback. Kreutz was twice a first-team All-Pac 10 player at Washington.
