American Kolache lands Walmart deal to expand nationwide

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis-based American Kolache is going to bring its reimagined Czech pastries to aisles across the country after securing a deal with Walmart.

Owner Russ Clark recently secured Walmart’s “Fast Pass,” an opportunity granted to only 50 companies nationwide to pitch directly to the retailer’s buyers. Clark said American Kolache “blew them away” during meetings in Kansas City and will present to Walmart’s team in Bentonville, Arkansas this October.

The rollout will feature smaller, freezer-ready versions of two customer favorites: the Sausage & Gravy Kolache and the ‘Merica Kolache.

“American Kolache is excited to have the opportunity to strike a deal with Walmart. They have been amazing to work with,” Clark said.

This move comes as American Kolache celebrates its 10th anniversary next month and continues to expand its footprint. They currently operate 11 location: seven in St. Louis, two in Illinois and single shops in Topeka, Kansas, and Birmingham, Alabama, with more planned in Indiana, Virginia, Illinois and Kentucky.

Beyond retail, Clark is also looking to the skies with a recent contract with Optimum Catering Solutions, which supplies U.S. and Canadian airlines, setting up American Kolache for the chance to hit in-flight menus.
