Along 4 the Hike: Franklin Gulf Park

NORTH COLLINS, N.Y. (WIVB) — This week’s hike is at Franklin Gulf Park in the towns of Eden and North Collins. It’s a 637-acre Erie County Park that used to be known as Larkin Woods. This one is often labeled as a hidden gem.

The star here is the “gulf,” which in this case means a steep gorge. Visitors get to walk along the gorge and into it, going up and down various ravines.

There are also several waterfalls. If you can catch them after rain, they’re beautiful, but there is a bright side to the current dry stretch: you can walk right into the creek bed for some great views and photos of the gorge.

Address: School Street, North Collins, NY 14111
Distance from Buffalo: 22 miles
Parking: Free in two lots. See a map here.
Difficulty: Difficult according to the Western New York Hiking Challenge, primarily because of the elevation.
