ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Albany County District Attorney’s Office (ACDA) confirmed on Thursday that a teen was arraigned in an Albany homicide case. The 16-year-old, whose name was not released due to their age, faces a four-count indictment which includes one count of second-degree murder.

The teen is accused of shooting a 15-year-old in the back on the 500 block of Clinton Avenue near North Lake Avenue in Albany around 11 p.m. on June 23. The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center, where they later died from their injuries.

The defendant and the victim are believed to have known each other prior to the incident, according to Albany Police. The indictment additionally charges the 16-year-old with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of tampering with physical evidence.

The ACDA stated that prosecutors, led by Assistant District Attorney Stephen Lydon, are working to have the 16-year-old tried as an adult. The teen, who was taken into custody on Thursday morning on Colonie Street, was held at the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility ahead of further proceedings.
