It was a Christmas Day that some local police officers will certainly never forget.
Stoughton cops helped deliver a baby in a vehicle’s backseat, in what they’re calling a “Christmas Morning Miracle.”
“Christmas morning brought an unforgettable and truly special moment for the Stoughton Police Department,” Stoughton PD posted.
At 6:12 a.m., officers responded to a report of a female in active labor inside a vehicle on Glen Echo Boulevard.
Sgt. Medeiros, himself a father, was the first to arrive on scene. Moments later, Officer Guzman, a mom, arrived to helped.
The mother-to-be was in the backseat of the vehicle and ready to deliver.
“Officer Guzman calmly directed her to push, while Sgt. Medeiros assisted in delivering the baby,” police wrote. “After the baby boy was born, Sgt. Medeiros cleared his mouth and nose, placed him on his mother’s belly, and gently rubbed his back—moments later, the newborn let out his first cry. At 6:17 a.m., a healthy baby boy was born—right on Christmas morning.”
The mother and her newborn son were transported by ambulance to Boston Medical Center-South, where they continued to receive care and were doing well.
“This incredible event is a reminder that our officers are called upon to handle every kind of emergency—sometimes even helping deliver new life into the world,” the police department wrote. “We are proud of Sgt. Medeiros and Officer Guzman for their quick actions, teamwork, and compassion during this once-in-a-lifetime Christmas miracle. From all of us at the Stoughton Police Department, congratulations to the new mother and her family, and welcome to the world, little one.”
