Position Summary

Friendship Christian School seeks a visionary and spiritually grounded leader to serve as our Head of School. This pivotal role requires a strong commitment to Christian education, strategic leadership, and a passion for academic excellence and student development. The Head of School will work closely with Friendship Baptist Church, the Deacon School Board, and the school faculty to ensure that FCS continues to thrive as a premier Christian educational institution. This is a unique opportunity for a faith-driven, mission-oriented leader who is eager to shape the next generation of Christ-followers while ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of our school.

Position Type: This new position has been envisioned as Full-Time.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Spiritual & Visionary Leadership

  • Lead with a strong Christian testimony, fostering a Christ-centered school culture.
  • Serve as the spiritual leader of FCS, modeling Biblical principles in all aspects of school life.
  • Develop and execute a clear, compelling vision aligned with Friendship Baptist Church.
  • Promote and champion the school’s mission, values, and long-term strategic goals.
  • Inspire students, faculty, and families to grow in their faith and academic pursuits.

Academic & Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily school operations, ensuring a safe, structured, and faith-based learning environment.
  • Ensure curriculum rigor, teacher empowerment, and spiritual integration across all subjects.
  • Utilize student performance data to enhance both academic achievement and spiritual growth.
  • Cultivate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Oversee disciplinary processes, ensuring that student and staff behavior aligns with Biblical values.

Strategic Growth & Community Engagement

  • Lead student enrollment efforts, promoting FCS to prospective families and churches.
  • Foster strong relationships with parents, alumni, donors, and community stakeholders.
  • Serve as the chief ambassador and advocate for the school in both local and national settings.
  • Actively participate in the life of Friendship Baptist Church, strengthening school-church ties.

Financial & Compliance Oversight

  • Develop and present a balanced budget to the Deacon School Board, ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Secure financial support through donor relations, fundraising efforts, and resource allocation.

Professional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (minimum) in Education, Educational Administration, or a related field. Doctorate degree strongly preferred.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in Christian school leadership.
  • A proven track record in strategic planning, faculty development, and academic excellence.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire, mentor, and lead a team of Christian educators.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing school budgets and operations.

About Us Hope Partnership for Education was founded by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus and the Sisters of Mercy, with input from community residents, on the belief that every Philadelphian deserves access to a high-quality educational experience. Our instructional model, originating at the Nativity Mission Center in New York City in 1971, emphasizes small class sizes, extended learning time, and high school support for students in historically underserved communities.

Today, Hope Partnership for Education is a trusted educational center offering small classes, after-school enrichment, and summer programming to middle school students. We work collaboratively with organizations throughout the Fairhill-Hartranft neighborhood to serve the community.

Position Title: Head of Middle School Classification: Exempt, Full-Time Reports To: President/CEO

Position Summary The Head of Middle School is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading all middle school operations at Hope Partnership for Education. This includes ensuring the safety, well-being, and academic success of students and providing instructional leadership grounded in research-based best practices.

The Head of Middle School will implement strategic plans to meet accreditation standards and exceed key performance benchmarks. This position oversees staff recruitment, staff supervision, professional development, and the middle school budget. The role also manages all government, and school programs (Title 1) and maintains compliance with applicable regulations.

Collaboration with the Graduate Support Director ensures successful high school placement for all students. The Head of Middle School works closely with the President/CEO to address strategic and operational priorities and to advance the school’s mission.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensure the well-being and safety of all students
  • Partner with Development team to support fundraising efforts
  • Provide instructional leadership and staff supervision
  • Lead professional development and coaching for teachers
  • Collaborate with the Graduate Support Director to ensure 100% high school placement
  • Develop and manage the middle school budget
  • Implement strategic plans in partnership with the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees
  • Maintain performance benchmarks (enrollment, student performance)
  • Manage and update teacher and family handbooks
  • Maintain educational and operational standards

Qualifications

  • Commitment to educational equity and experience working in underserved communities
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field required
  • Minimum of five years of teaching and/or administrative experience
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
