Historic 1920s West Hollywood home relocated to Altadena

A historic 1920s home in West Hollywood is getting a second chance at life. It was saved from being demolished and now it is being moved to Altadena to become a new home for a family who lost theirs in the Eaton Fire.

The move is part of the Historic House Relocation Project and made the four hour journey from West Hollywood to Altadena overnight.

The architect says the family in Altadena will be able to be home by summer.

According to Morgan Sykes Jaybush with Omgivning Architects, he estimates that the family should be able to move in in about five months.

The work started in West Hollywood Thursday night as the final pieces of the home were lifted onto a truck and hauled through the colorful streets of West Hollyhood along with an escort from the California Highway Patrol.

The home then wove its way through downtown Los Angeles.

Drone video captured how the home slowly passed iconic locations like the regent theater and LA City Hall.

Once the home is relocated, it has to go through restoration and rehabilitation.

The home will be able to keep its 1920s charm and unique architecture, but the inside of it will be brought up to current standards.

Omgivning Architects says this is the third house they’ve moved and they have six more lined up.
