A pedestrian walking on Interstate 70 near Glenwood Springs was struck and killed by a semitruck driver on Wednesday night, Colorado State Patrol officials said.
The crash happened at 7:16 p.m. near mile 113 of westbound I-70, 3 miles west of Glenwood Springs, state officials said in a news release Thursday.
Investigators found a that woman on the interstate walked into the right lane of westbound I-70 when she was hit by tractor-trailer.
The driver initially stopped but left the scene before law enforcement arrived, according to CSP.
The woman, a 47-year-old Glenwood Springs resident, died at the scene. Her name will be released by the Garfield County Coroner.
Westbound I-70 was closed for five hours after the crash.
Investigators identified the truck driver suspected in the crash and are working to locate him, the state patrol said.
