The Score will launch an FM simulcast on 104.3, the current home of hip hop/R&B music station JAMS, starting Feb. 2. It’s The Score’s first foray on FM, where the station will be branded 104.3 The Score and carry the same programming heard on 670 The Score.
The station becomes parent-company Audacy’s 20th FM sports station. The Score launched in 1992 at 820 AM before moving to 1160 in 1997 and to its current home in 2000, turning the nearly 80-year-old WMAQ into WSCR.
JAMS launched in 2017 when Audacy, then called Entercom, turned classic-hits station WJMK into WBMX. Switching to The Score’s simulcast will cost the jobs of three JAMS employees.
“We’re excited to expand The Score’s reach through this FM simulcast, bringing our premier sports content to an even wider audience so they can join the conversation and stay connected to their favorite Chicago teams,” Audacy Chicago senior vice president and market manager Kevin Cassidy said in a statement.
In addition to its regular show lineup, the Score carries Bulls and Cubs games, as well as NFL games from Westwood One. It also aired seven Sky games last season.
The addition of an FM signal safeguards The Score from automakers who are removing AM radio from their vehicles. Congress is working to stop the removal with the bipartisan AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, which has advanced out of the House committee. The Score is expected to sunset its 104.3-FM HD-2 signal.
Sister station WBBM Newsradio 780 also has an FM simulcast on 105.9 (WCFS).
