Massachusetts basketball coach who had sex with student sentenced to federal prison

A local basketball coach who was convicted of transporting a child across state lines to have sex with the student has been sentenced to federal prison.

Jesus Moore, 36, from Lawrence, was sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison and 10 years of supervised release.

Moore previously pleaded guilty in New Hampshire federal court to one count of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

Back in March of 2022, the basketball coach at Lawrence High School ordered a rideshare to transport a high school student to the Super 8 Motel in Manchester.

Moore also traveled from Massachusetts to the Super 8 Motel. He was accused of giving alcohol to the student and then engaging in sexual conduct with the minor.

“Moore abused his position of trust as a teacher and coach to victimize a student,” New Hampshire U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan said in a statement.

“Today’s sentence reflects the severity of Moore’s conduct,” Creegan added. “Our office, together with our law enforcement partners, remains dedicated to identifying and prosecuting those who exploit children.”

The Department of Homeland Security, Lawrence Police, and Manchester Police led the investigation.

“Moore grievously abused his position of trust,” said Special Agent in Charge Michael Krol for Homeland Security Investigations New England. “He transported a child to a motel across state lines, supplied them with alcohol, and committed assault.

“His actions were calculated and aimed at harming the very students he was entrusted to protect,” Krol added. “We work every day with our law enforcement partners to protect children and bring predators like Moore to justice.”
