Fire damages two-story Winnetka office building

Some units in a two-story building in Winnetka were damaged in a Tuesday morning fire.

The fire was reported shortly after 5 a.m. on the 20000 block of W. Sherman Way. About 10 units were red-tagged, meaning they cannot be occupied due to extensive damage.

According to LAFD, the response was split into defensive in one portion of the building due to a partial collapse and fire on both floors.

“It is an offensive operation towards the rear where crews are also working to prevent any further extension through the office building,” LAFD said.

One person was transported to a hospital, but their age and condition were not known.

Units on the second floor of the complex were likely vacant, according to firefighters. The bottom floor might have housed businesses.

Flames did not spread to a nearby apartment building.
