An arrest has been made in the apparently unprovoked stabbing death of a Bronx father remembered by neighbors as a “hard-working man” who “did everything for his children.”
Sean Jones was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and is charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon in the killing of 53-year-old George Ennin.
Ennin, a Ghanian immigrant whose Melrose neighbors say worked nonstop as a security guard to provide for his children, was stabbed repeatedly in front of a Third Avenue pizzeria. He later died.
“He didn’t deserve this,” a neighbor said at a gathering Tuesday night. “His family don’t deserve his. His daughters don’t deserve this.”
The neighbor, who asked not to use her name, said she’d known Ennin for over a decade. She says he was the type who worked so much she barely saw him around. She said he lived with his “two beautiful daughters.”
And she can’t imagine why anyone would want to hurt him.
“He was one of those good people, he was a good person, he was good-hearted,” the neighbor said. “He didn’t bother nobody.”
Jones is expected to be arraigned Wednesday. Information on a possible attorney for him wasn’t immediately available.
