What is Kyler Gordon's status for Bears vs. Packers? Here's what we know

Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon is hoping to be back on the field for Saturday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, but what is his status?

According to the latest update from Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, it sure sounds like Gordon is expected to be on the field for the game.

“Our plan is to have him be a part of it,” Allen said during a Wednesday press conference at Halas Hall.

His comments follow those made by head coach Ben Johnson on Monday, who said the team “hopes” to activate Gordon from injured reserve for the playoff game.

The Bears officially opened Gordon’s 21-day practice window to return to the active roster, and he would have been a limited participant in practice on Tuesday had the Bears held a full workout, according to the team.

Gordon has missed the Bears’ last four games due to a groin injury, and has only appeared in three games this season, with seven tackles and one sack.

In four seasons with the Bears, Gordon has 214 combined tackles, two forced fumbles and five interceptions.

The Bears’ secondary would definitely welcome Gordon back into the fold, as their pass defense is the second-worst among playoff teams, allowing 227.2 yards per game through the air.

The team also suffered an injury setback in their secondary on Sunday, as cornerback CJ Gardner-Johnson left their game against the Detroit Lions after being placed into concussion protocol by the Bears.

The Bears’ defense has been bolstered by their propensity for forcing turnovers, racking up 23 interceptions and a league-best +22 turnover differential on the season.

Saturday’s game between the Bears and Packers is set for 7 p.m., with the game airing on Prime Video.
