Driver crashes into suburban Rosati's after picking up Christmas Eve order

Two employees and a driver were injured after a man picking up a pizza order on Christmas Eve accidentally drove into a suburban Rosati’s Pizza restaurant.

Police said the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday after a 77-year-old left the Rosati’s at 322 E. Wilson St. in Batavia with his pickup order.

The man, driving in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was leaving the area when he is believed to have “had mechanical issues with the gear shifter and mistakenly put the vehicle in drive,” sending him crashing into the front of the business.

“It is believed that the driver may have been experiencing a medical issue at the time of the crash,” police said in a release Thursday.

Two employees inside the business were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the driver was taken to the hospital for medical care as well. The driver’s condition was not immediately known.

Police said the business sustained “significant damage” in the crash and was boarded up to secure the building.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call (630) 454-2500.
