Chicago Bears injury update: Tremaine Edmunds activated from IR

The Chicago Bears’ defense will likely get a boost on Saturday night, as linebacker Tremaine Edmunds was activated from injured reserve.

Edmunds missed the team’s last four games with a groin injury, but he practiced with the Bears this week, and now he appears poised to make his return in what will be a huge game for Chicago.

Despite missing those four games, Edmunds leads the team in tackles with 89, and has nine passes defended and four interceptions in his third season with the Bears.

The Bears also activated wide receiver Maurice Alexander from the practice squad for the game, as they’ll be without Rome Odunze and Luther Burden for the huge game against the Green Bay Packers.

Alexander has appeared in seven career NFL games, all with the Lions, and has been on the Bears’ practice squad all season.

One other good bit of news for the Bears came as it was reported running back D’Andre Swift would suit up despite having a groin injury that limited him in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN had the initial report on Swift’s status.

Swift is the Bears’ leading rusher this season, and is just 65 yards shy of hitting the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season.

The Bears have not had a 1,000-yard rusher since the 2022 season when Justin Fields rushed for 1,143 yards. The Bears haven’t had a running back hit that mark since David Montgomery did so during the 2020 season, which also happens to be the last time the Bears made the playoffs.
