SEPTA reaches tentative deal with SMART union members Thursday

Another union has reached a tentative agreement with SEPTA this week.

According to information shared on the SMART-TD Local 1594 (Upper Darby, Pa.) website, union members agreed to an agreement with SEPTA on Dec. 11.

The new agreement reportedly includes safety, pay increases, benefits and work rules among other items.

Officials with the union say that this agreement also includes a promise that members of SMART will not be replaced by automated vehicles.

“Late this afternoon we reached a tentative deal. It is for 2 years, same basic terms as with TWU. It includes raises, a pension enhancement during the 2 years and implementation of an improved absence management program,” a spokesperson with SEPTA wrote in a statement to NBC10.

This agreement comes just days after SEPTA reached a tentative two-year deal with the Transport Workers Union Local 234.
