50-year-old man shot dead inside of Prince George's County lounge

A man from Waldorf, Maryland, was shot and killed in a Prince George’s County restaurant and lounge late Monday night, police said.

At 11:50 p.m., police got a call from people inside of Ebony Inn in Fairmount Heights, Maryland. Ebony Inn is a barbecue restaurant that has a lounge/club attached to it.

The people called from inside of a freezer and said there was a shooting, according to a dispatch call. They ran inside the freezer and locked themselves in when shots first rang out. According to the dispatch call, they said there was an argument that led up to the shooting.

Donald Wayne Hunt, 50, got in an argument with several customers at the Ebony Inn, police said. A person told a private armed security guard who worked there. The security guard shot Hunt while trying to intervene, police said.

When police arrived to the scene, they found Hunt suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dark colored SUV was towed away just before police cleared the scene. A second gun was also found on the property, police said.

A man named Xavier Washington who lives in the area told News4 the gun violence is out of control and needs to stop.

“This is normal around here. Some people, they fight and things escalate to situations where somebody get murdered and they don’t think about it at all,” Washington said. “It’s impulsive and it shouldn’t be happening but that’s normal nowadays.”

There have been no charges filed in connection to the shooting, police said. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
