Window washer seen dangling from Tysons high-rise after platform collapses

Two workers trapped several stories up outside a Tysons, Virginia, high-rise Thursday were rescued after their window-washing basket partially collapsed, officials said.

The window washers were working on the Intelsat building at 7900 Tysons One Place, near the Capital Beltway and Chain Bridge Road, about 10 a.m. when one side of their window washing platform malfunctioned, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.

The workers’ safety ropes held them in place.

Photos show the platform dangling at about a 45-degree angle, and a worker hanging underneath.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue crews responded, and members of the Technical Rescue Operations Team lowered the workers into the bucket of a tower ladder, officials said. No injuries were reported.
