Florida man with ‘come back with a warrant' doormat arrested in fraud scheme: Sheriff

A Florida man with a “come back with a warrant” doormat was arrested in a large-scale mortgage fraud scheme, authorities said.

Christopher Musick, 57, of Daytona Beach, was arrested on charges of organized scheme to defraud and grand theft over $100,000, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office officials said Tuesday.

According to the sheriff’s office, Musick would create fake documents to pose as a real estate investor and owner of multiple business properties.

He would get mortgages against the properties, use the money to buy more that were then rented out as he pocketed the money and never paid off his loans, officials said.

After interviewing Musick, detectives with the sheriff’s office’s Financial Crimes Unit “established probable cause to execute a search warrant at his residence, thereby satisfying the doormat’s request,” authorities said.

Musick has 10 prior felony convictions and two outstanding warrants out of Maryland, the sheriff’s office said.

He was booked into jail and his bond was set at $225,000.
