Minnesota has seen warm fall temperatures these past few weeks, but winter weather is here. Bring Me The News says in addition to anticipated snow flakes this week, travelers should plan ahead as they hit the road for Thanksgiving, as meteorologists are also watching a possible holiday storm.
If you’re traveling by air, remember to pack something to eat. KARE 11 reports Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport food workers are planning to strike. “More than 200 employees of HMSHost — which runs popular airport stops like Shake Shack, Chili’s and The Cocktail Room — want wage increases and health care support. … [Members] are set to strike on Nov. 24, 25 and 26.” The deadline for a new fair contract is midnight on Nov. 23.
The federal government shutdown is over, but food shelves are still preparing for the holidays. MPR News writes “food banks across the state are worried about the shutdown’s lasting impacts and the growing need for hunger relief heading into the holiday season.”
Medica is taking over UCare health care plans as they prepare to close. WCCO TV explains “UCare says those enrolled in one of its plans for the 2025 calendar year will continue to receive coverage, and eligible individuals can continue to enroll in coverage offered by either Medica or UCare. Individuals already enrolled in UCare’s 2026 Medicaid and Individual and Family Plans should also continue to receive service without interruption.”
It’s deer hunting season, and if you’re heading to the woods, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wants your help in fighting a disease impacting deer. KTTC reports “chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a contagious fatal brain condition that affects deer. … Hunters in affected areas must provide CWD samples if it’s in a mandatory sample requirement area.”
