The 32nd annual Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend is here!
Although nearly all of the events have sold out, the city is preparing to welcome 37,000 participants from nearly 60 countries.
Runners can pick up their packets starting on Friday, Nov. 20 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center
The Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon and Rothman Orthopaedics 8K Run are expected to kick off on Saturday before the AACR Philadelphia Marathon and the Nemours Children’s Run take over on Sunday.
This means that road closures will heavily impact the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, 20th Street, Eakins Oval, Kelly Drive and the Spring Garden Street Bridge among other roads throughout the city.
Road closures
Starting on Friday, Nov. 21
- Benjamin Franklin Parkway’s inner-drive lanes will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
- These lanes will reopen at 2:45 p.m. for rush hour
- After Friday’s rush hour, the inner-lanes will close from Binswanger Triangle to 20th Street.
- After Friday’s rush hour, All lanes of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will close between 22nd Street to Eakins Oval.
- Kelly Drive will be close at 25th Street with just local traffic allowed to use Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive.
- Spring Garden Street will be closed between Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue with cross traffic allowed on 22nd and 21st streets.
- Traffic heading into the city via Spring Garden Street or MLK Drive will be rerouted onto 24th Street.
Closures scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22
Any cars parked along the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon route will be relocated, so be sure to carefully read and follow all “No Parking” signs.
Officers with the Philadelphia Police Department will be controlling access for local residents and businesses along the race route.
To get to the Philadelphia Museum of Art during the race, you can access the entrance by using Spring Garden Street to Anne D’ Harnoncourt Drive.
The following streets will be closed on Saturday from 2 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
- The Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 20th and 25th streets
- Kelly Drive
- Other roads in Center City listed below
Any roads near 18th Street and the Parkway as well as Logan Circle will be shut down until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
All day on Saturday until about 5 p.m., these roads will be closed:
- All lanes of Benjamin Franklin between 22nd Street and Eakins Oval.
- Kelly Drive inbound closed at 25th Street with local traffic allowed onto Anne d’Harnoncourt Drive.
- Inbound traffic on Spring Garden Street Bridge and MLK Drive will be detoured onto 24th Street.
- Spring Garden Street closed between Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue.

- Spring Garden Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway
- 23rd Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway

- 21st Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Winter Street
Roads to be closed starting at 4 a.m. on Saturday:
- The westbound Interstate 676 off-ramp at 22nd Street
- The eastbound Interstate 76 off-ramp at Spring Garden

All of the closed roads, except for Eakins Oval and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, are set to reopen by 2 p.m. on Saturday with many opening sooner depending on the flow of runners.

All of the closed roads, except for Eakins Oval and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, are set to reopen by 3 p.m. on Saturday with many opening sooner depending on the flow of runners.
The outer lanes of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Eakins Oval and Kelly Drive are expected to be reopened y 5 p.m. on Sunday with all other impacted roads reopening by 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24.
SEPTA bus detours
Starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday and on Sunday, the following bus routes are expected to be rerouted:
- Routes K-12: 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12
- Routes 16-31: 16, 17, 21, 23, 25, 27, 30, 31
- Routes 32-47: 32, 33, 38, 40, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47
- Routes 47M-125: 47M, 48, 49, 57, 64, 124/125
If you’re planning on taking the Regional Rail, you can go to Suburban Square or 30th Street stations to get to the start and finish lines.
