A man who claimed to be from the United Kingdom was found with fake identification on him after he was charged with the death of a driver while allegedly fleeing from police, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident unfolded on Nov. 9 just after 5:30 p.m. when a worker at PNS Gas and Food Mart called police to report two men who were drunk, officials said.
An employee at that gas station had told NBC10 on Sunday that he was the one who had called police just before the crash happened because several people were causing a disturbance there.
When the officers got to the gas station, they saw a white car drive away that matched the description given by the worker, police said.
As the white car drove off onto Hessian Road, the officers in a marked patrol car turned on their emergency lights and tried to stop the driver, officials explained.
The white car did not stop, but moved onto the wrong side of the road before crashing into a second car at the intersection of Red Bank and Hessian avenues in West Deptford Township just before 6 p.m., police reported.
The driver of the other car was killed in the crash and the passenger was left injured with a broken leg, officials said.
One girl who was involved in the crash was riding in an Uber and she broke her leg, according to her mother.
Her mother also told NBC10 that the Uber driver is who was killed in the crash.
Police originally identified the driver of the white car as 28-year-old Steve Hall, of Waltham Cross, United Kingdom, according to the prosecutor’s office.
But, after Hall was charged with death by auto and assault by auto, investigators discovered on Nov. 12 that this was not his true identity, officials said.
According to the prosecutor’s office, his true name is George Linard.
Linard was found to be wanted by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for not appearing to face charges including unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, money laundering and possession of a false government identification document, officials reported.
