WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) water treatment plant in Cedar Park is set to be expanded to increase its capacity by over 20 million gallons.
This comes after Round Rock City Council approved a $97.6 million contract for the construction of Phase 2A of the BCRUA’s water treatment plant that also provides water to Cedar Park and Leander. Round Rock will contribute about $46.47 million, and Leander will contribute about $51.15 million of the contract.
“It’s going to take the water treatment plant from about 42 million gallons per day of capacity to a little bit more than 64 million gallons per day of capacity,” said Michael Thane, who is Round Rock’s executive director of public works.
Thane said that from the expansion, Leander & Round Rock will be getting additional capacity for their water. Thane added that Cedar Park does not need additional capacity at this time.
“We’re staying ahead of that curve so that when economic development opportunities come to Round Rock or people want to move here, we want to make sure we have the water system in the wastewater system ready to go — with extra capacity,” Thane said.
Thane said they expect construction on Phase 2A on the water treatment plant to be done summer of 2028.
