Former SF Mayor London Breed mulling run for Pelosi's seat

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Former San Francisco Mayor London Breed is eyeing a potential run for Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat. The news was first reported in Politico.

KRON4 sources have confirmed that the former mayor is considering a run for Pelosi’s seat. Breed has reportedly been running the idea past allies, including fellow former SF Mayor Willie Brown.

“I called a couple of people just to see what their thoughts were. My text messages and phone have been ringing off the hook from a lot of people in San Francisco,” Breed told Politico. “It’s important that San Franciscans have options. I want to explore whether I could potentially be one of those options.”

Breed, who lost her reelection bid last November, would face competition from State Sen. Scott Wiener and progressive tech entrepreneur Saikat Chakrabarti, were she to enter the race. Speaker Emerita Pelosi’s daughter, Christine Pelosi has also been mentioned as a possible candidate, as has San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan.

While not entirely unexpected, Pelosi’s announcement Wednesday that she would not seek reelection sent shockwaves through the political world, both in the Bay Area and nationally.
