Crews work to install 110-foot Ferris wheel at the Philadelphia Zoo

A fun attraction — that will surely take you to new heights — is taking shape at the Philadelphia Zoo.

SkyForce10 was over the zoo the morning of Friday, November 7, 2025, as crews installed the “Philly Zoo Pherris Wheel.

The 110-foot-tall observation wheel, situated where the former Zoo Balloon once stood, will offer breathtaking views of the zoo, city skyline, Schuylkill River, Philadelphia Art Museum, Boat House Row and beyond.

Organizers said this will be the first time in the zoo’s 150-plus-year history that they will have a Ferris wheel on their campus.

The ride holds up to 144 passengers, and each gondola can fit up to six guests. The ride lasts about seven minutes.

You must be at least 32″ tall to ride, and children must ride with a supervising adult.

The Ferris wheel is set to open, November 20, in conjunction with the zoo’s nature-inspired holiday light show, LumiNature, and will remain at the zoo through the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
