Virginia election results maps: How Democrats swept the state's top offices

Governor’s race

Abigail Spanberger defeated Republican candidate Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears to become the first female governor-elect in the commonwealth’s history.

The map below shows Spanberger’s winning counties include a swath of Northern Virginia and Spotsylvania County, which hasn’t voted Democratic in recent history.

Spanberger won Spotsylvania County by a relatively slim margin — but it’s the first time the county has voted blue since 2018, when she was elected to represent Virginia’s 7th District.

Lt. Gov.

Democrat Ghazala Hashmi won the race for Virginia’s lieutenant governor, flipping the office from red to blue, NBC News projects.

The results map shows Hashmi gained much of the counties and cities as Spanberger, minus Spotsylvania, Lynchburg and Prince Edward counties.

Attorney General

Democrat Jay Jones will be Virginia’s next attorney general, defeating Republican incumbent Jason Miyares, NBC News projects.

Many of the counties that voted for Spanberger also voted for Jones. But, like Hashmi, he did not get the majority of votes from Spotsylvania, Lynchburg and Prince Edward counties.
