(KRON) — California Highway Patrol officers in the Hayward area busted two to eight times as many DUI drivers as those patrolling the rest of the Bay Area on Halloween, data shows.
CHP arrested a total of 88 drivers in the Bay Area during its holiday enforcement. The regional CHP offices with the most Halloween DUIs include Hayward (24), San Jose (12) and San Francisco (8).
The arrests were part of CHP’s “maximum-enforcement period,” which lasted from 6 p.m. on Halloween to 6 a.m. Nov. 1.
“For the first time, Halloween was designated as a CHP maximum enforcement period,” CHP said. “All available CHP personnel, of all ranks, across all of California, worked through the night to help ensure everyone got home safely.”

The Hayward area also saw the most speeding tickets during the holiday. During the same period, CHP gave out 83 speeding tickets in the Hayward region, 66 in the Dublin area and 50 in the Solano area. See the included list for Halloween DUI and speeding ticket totals by region.
“We appreciate everyone who chose to celebrate responsibly,” CHP said. “Together, we can reduce impaired driving, prevent dangerous driving, and keep our communities safe.”
CHP arrested more than 500 DUIs drivers across the state on Halloween. This data does not include DUIs or speeding tickets handled by other law enforcement agencies in the Bay Area.
