BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man from Lombard, Ill. pleaded guilty Thursday morning to charges related to an incident at Dr. Charles R. Drew Science Magnet school that occurred this past winter, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
Shane Cronin, 31, entered the school through the Buffalo Museum of Science and approached two juvenile students on the afternoon of Feb. 11. Officials said he attempted to lure and abduct one of them, a girl under the age of 10, before a teacher told him to leave.
Cronin punched the teacher in the face. He was taken into custody after fleeing the building.
“I understand this incident has raised questions and heightened concerns about the safety and well-being of children in the Buffalo Public School District,” said Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane. “I assure the public that this office remains committed to the thorough investigation and prosecution of any crime involving a child.”
Cronin pleaded guilty to the following:
- second-degree attempted kidnapping
- third-degree burglary
- attempted luring a child
- second-degree attempted assault
- endangering the welfare of a child
He faces a maximum of 15 years in prison when is sentenced Jan. 21, 2026. Keane said their office will ask the judge for the maximum sentence.
A temporary order of protection for the victims remains in effect.
