Code Blue declared in Schenectady County

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Officials in Schenectady County declared a Code Blue for the area on Wednesday. The alert was issued due to forecasted inclement temperatures.

The county’s Code Blue will be in place from 8 p.m. on November 5 through 7 a.m. on November 7. Anyone in need of emergency sheltering or housing can contact the following Schenectady County facilities:

“As winter begins, we urge everyone to take precautions against the cold and check in on friends, neighbors, and loved ones to help prevent weather-related illnesses such as hypothermia and frostbite,” Schenectady County Legislator Omar McGill stated. “Through our continued partnership with community providers, we’ve built a strong network of safe, warm spaces for residents when temperatures fall below freezing — so if you or someone you know needs a warm place to stay, help and shelter are available when they’re needed most.”

The Schenectady County Office of Emergency Management urged the community to wear warm clothing when outside, and avoid extraneous activity in the cold. If power outages occur, residents are reminded to not run generators inside in order to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
