(KRON) — California Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber has hit back at President Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims that Tuesday’s special statewide election is somehow rigged.
“The Unconstitutional Redistricting Vote in California is a GIANT SCAM in that the entire process, in particular the Voting itself, is RIGGED,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, without providing any evidence. “All ‘Mail-In’ Ballots, where the Republicans in that State are ‘Shut Out,’ is under very serious legal and criminal review. STAY TUNED!”
On Tuesday, Weber issued a statement rebuking Trump.
“If there are irregularities, what are they?” Weber wrote. “Why won’t they identify them? Where exactly is this fraud? Ramblings don’t equate with fact.”
Polls suggest California voters are poised to pass Proposition 50, a statewide redistricting measure that would lay the groundwork for Democrats to pick up five additional House seats next year. The initiative, which was prominently backed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, was drawn up in response to similar GOP redistricting efforts in Texas — that were backed by Trump.
“The bottom line is California elections have been validated by the courts,” Weber continued. “California voters will not be deceived by someone who consistently makes desperate, unsubstantiated attempts to dissuade Americans from participating in our democracy.”
“I encourage California voters who have not yet voted to go to the polls and join the more than 7 million voters who have already voted. California voters will not be sidelined from exercising their constitutional right to vote and should not let anyone deter them from exercising that right,” Weber added.

Trump has a track record of casting doubt on the results of elections he fears may not go in his favor. When he lost the 2020 Presidential Election to Joe Biden, he falsely claimed the election had been stolen and accused Democrats of mass voter fraud.
Despite no credible evidence ever being introduced to support this, Trump still maintains that election was stolen.
Trump has threatened unspecified legal action over mail-in ballots cast in Tuesday’s special election.
