Former St. Louis TV news anchor charged with murder in mother's stabbing death

A former St. Louis television news anchor was arrested for fatally stabbing her mother in Wichita, Kansas, authorities said.

Angelynn Mock, 47, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder, jail records showed.

Wichita police said at approximately 7:52 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to a reported cutting at a home along Crowley Street near Victoria Street on the city’s South Side. When officers arrived at the home, they found 80-year-old Anita Avers unresponsive in her bed, police stated.

Avers, who had been stabbed multiple times, was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m.

Mock, who was identified as a suspect, was located outside the home following the stabbing, police stated. Mock previously worked as a morning news anchor at FOX 2 in St. Louis and KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City.

Information about a possible motive hadn’t been revealed as of Sunday evening.
