ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The United States general election is set for Tuesday, November 4. There are several notable local races taking place in the Capital Region. Here’s what you need to know if you’re planning on heading to the polls.
To vote in this election, you must register by October 25 (if not already registered). Early voting in New York takes place from October 25 to November 2. If you voted early, you cannot also vote on Election Day.
If you want an early mail ballot or absentee ballot, you must request it by October 25 (if requested to be mailed) or November 3 (if requested in person). You must return your early mail ballot or absentee ballot by mailing it to your county board of elections no later than November 4 or bringing it to your board of elections by November 4. Postmarked ballots must arrive to your county board of elections by November 12.

Key state races and statewide proposal
There are three major mayoral races happening around the state on November 4.
New York City Mayor

Adams dropped out of the race in September, but will still appear on the ballot.

There will be one proposal on all New York State ballots. The proposal is titled “Amendment to Allow Olympic Sports Complex In Essex County on State Forest Preserve Land.” Here’s what the proposal will look like on the ballot:
Allows skiing and related trail facilities on state forest preserve land. The site is 1,039 acres. Requires State to add 2,500 acres of new forest land in Adirondack Park.
A yes vote authorizes new ski trails and related facilities in the Adirondack forest preserve.
A no vote does not authorize this use.
