Troy man charged with manslaughter

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Police arrested a Troy man on Wednesday as a result of a death investigation. Donald McIntosh Jr., 51, was charged with second-degree manslaughter.

The Troy Police and Fire Departments both arrived to the Speedway gas station on Burden Avenue around 9 a.m. on October 22 after receiving reports of a person there being in medical distress. Responders found a 45 year-old man in cardiac arrest who was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

While interviewing a friend of the victim who had accompanied the man at the Speedway, detectives determined that the victim had been involved in a fight at a storage facility on Campbell Avenue just before he and his friend made their way to the gas station. The victim’s friend reportedly stopped at the Speedway to call for help after trying to transport the 45 year-old man to receive medical treatment.

After speaking with witnesses at the storage facility, officers identified McIntosh as a suspect in the altercation that resulted in the victim’s death, leading to law enforcement locating him on Hill Street and taking him into custody. According to Troy Police, McIntosh and the victim were familiar with each other and allegedly came to blows over a dispute involving a third person that both men were romantically involved with.

McIntosh was held at the Rensselaer County Jail following his arraignment at Troy City Court. The Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office and New York State Police assisted Troy Police with the ongoing investigation.
