DENVER (KDVR) — Olde Town Arvada now has a “designated drinking area,” which is an area where people can walk around with alcohol, with a few exceptions.
On Oct. 15, the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District announced that the city approved a designated drinking area, where people can openly drink in the pedestrian-only areas of Olde Town Arvada. However, the alcohol can’t come from anywhere.
Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District said the alcohol must come from eligible liquor licensed businesses in the area, which will serve drinks in a container with a QR code that shows it’s a designated “takeout beverage.” That means that people can’t drink their own alcohol or alcohol purchased from a retail store in the area.
This area is on Olde Wadsworth Boulevard from Grant Place to Grandview Avenue and along Grandview between Olde Wadsworth and Webster Street. There are already blue signs up around the area that say, “No alcohol beyond this point.”

“I’m so excited to kick off this new program that encourages people to spend more time enjoying everything Olde Town has to offer,” Stephanie Paul, director of Olde Town Arvada Marketing and Events, said. “The new designated drinking area adds another layer of fun and flexibility for visitors to explore our charming historic downtown, just in time for the holiday season.”
On Wednesday, there will be a celebration for the new area from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Olde Town Square at 5700 Olde Wadsworth Boulevard. There will also be an “inaugural community toast” at 6 p.m. in the Olde Town Arvada Square, where there will be free drink passes to local businesses.
During the event, representatives from the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District will also be in the area at an informational booth to answer questions about the new drinking area.
