Fresh mountain snowfall helps snowmaking at Loveland Ski Area

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Winter in Colorado is right around the corner and the high country now starting to get the first tastes of snowfall for the season.

“It seems all signs are pointing to winter now,” Loryn Roberson, the marketing and communications director at Loveland Ski Area said.

FOX31 met with Roberson at the Loveland Valley base area Monday where snow was falling but they also had multiple snow guns making snow as well in the Loveland Valley base area.

“We have fresh snow falling from the sky, temperatures have dropped and we are ready for winter,” Roberson said.

She said right now they really depend on colder temperatures and humidity levels for their snow making process. They officially started making snow back on Oct. 13 for this season.

“Our teams will be working hard so we can open up as soon as possible,” Roberson said.

Loveland Ski Area hasn’t set an opening day yet but she explained they usually open late October/early November. The ski area will stay open until the second week of May.

“We will continue to make snow and get that 18 inch base we like to open with and get things started,” Roberson said.

It’s also time to start ensuring that high country roadways are passable before heading out.

“Today started my schedule see what roads are open and it’s a good reminder to have your snow tires on and you get up here safely,” said Roberson.

She said the ski area has seen five “really productive” nights of snowmaking so far this season, with a good snowmaking forecast at the moment.

She also noted the ski area’s new Lift 7 which is a wide carrier, fixed-grip quad, which is intentional to allow people who are learning extra space to manuever.
