Study: Denver most screen-addicted city in Colorado

DENVER (KDVR) — “You’re always on that phone,” the catch phrase of parents heard around the world. However, in 2025, parents, aunts, uncles and even grandparents can be caught guilty of doom scrolling.

It’s the digital age, and hours of the day can be spent watching your preferred screen.

A study by iSelect revealed which Colorado cities have residents who watch the most videos in a day. Methodology included:

“The research examined online reach using Brandwatch, analyzing a variety of keywords for each category.

“For example, Cooking & Food included over 30 terms like “cooking,” “recipes,” “vegan recipes,” and “home cooking,”.

“While Politics covered ‘US elections,’ ‘Biden,’ ‘Congress,’ and ‘Supreme Court.’

“The total yearly reach for each topic was compared against U.S. Census population, estimates to calculate the average number of videos watched per 100 residents daily, offering a clear picture of which topics dominate American’s screen time.”

Rank City Number of videos watched by residents daily
1. Denver 45
2. Boulder 29
3. Grand Junction 17
4. Fort Collins 15
5. Pueblo 9
6. Colorado Springs 9
7. Durango 2

Numbers may seem to be lower than expected, but you have to take into consideration that for every 15-year-old watching 80 videos a day, there is an 81-year-old who doesn’t watch a single one.

The study also broke down which categories of videos are being watched the most by U.S. residents. The top five include:

Topic Reach per year Videos watched each day per 100 residents
Politics 584,858,371,396 474.1
TV and entertainment 141,826,982,244 115.0
Sports 135,485,352,740 109.8
Finance 114,223,313,580 92.6
AI & tech 84,152,567,203 68.2

The figures prove that people spend a profound amount of time watching videos. If the numbers of every category included in the study were totaled, the sum easily surpasses a trillion videos watched.

In a place like Denver, the averages would mean that each resident is contributing 16,425 video views a year.
