(NewsNation) — Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes have announced their engagement three years after being removed from the afternoon extension of ABC’s “Good Morning America” due to their romantic relationship.
The couple confirmed their engagement in a short episode of their podcast, “Amy & T.J.,” that was released on Tuesday.
“We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged,” Robach said at the start of the episode, which lasts roughly six minutes. “And we’ve been engaged for just about a month now.”
Holmes then chimed in, telling listeners that he and Robach wanted to share the news with them “before anyone else was able to.”
“We learned that lesson, I guess, in the past, about our relationship, that we want to be the first to talk about it,” he added.
Robach and Holmes were taken off the air at ABC in January 2023 and placed on a temporary hiatus after photos surfaced of them holding hands and spending time together. Both were married, not to each other, at the time, but had separated.
“We all agreed it’s best for everyone that they move on from ABC News,” an ABC News spokesperson said in a statement.
In 2023, Holmes and Robach announced on Instagram the debut of their podcast “Amy & T.J.”
“Now, the duo will get behind the microphone to explore meaningful conversations about current events, pop culture, and everything in between,” iHeartMedia said in announcing the podcast deal. “Nothing is off limits.”
In Tuesday’s episode, Robach and Holmes expressed that they were surprised nobody caught on earlier, as they — and Robach’s ring — had been in public since the engagement and “nobody said a word.”
“…I kept waiting for somebody to point [the ring] out or ask me, ‘Hey, what’s that?’ and it never happened,” Robach explained. “I think a lot of people who are close to us, who love us and who know us, understand what we’ve been through and so they don’t want to pry.”
The pair then went on to warn that any reports about their engagement, unless the information comes from “our mouths” or certain people in their lives, “that it’s all just made up.”
“I am so happy,” Robach noted as the episode ended.
