Chicago hotels named among best in U.S. in new Michelin ranking

A trio of Chicago hotels are being recognized as among the best in America in a new ranking from the Michelin Guide.

While restaurants receive Michelin Stars, hotels are awarded Michelin Keys, and three Chicago hotels received two of the prestigious keys, according to a new ranking released earlier this month.

One of those hotels was The Langham Hotel Chicago, located in the 300 block of North Wabash in the Loop.

“We’re proud to be one of only three hotels in Illinois to receive this two key distinction, a testament to our team’s dedication to service, comfort, attention to detail and by celebrating the everyday,” hotel officials said in a statement.

The hotel received two Michelin keys for the second year in a row, according to officials.

Michelin praised the Langham’s Chuan Spa, while the Travelle restaurant was also mentioned, citing its Mediterranean-style fare.

The Pendry, located in the Carbide and Carbon Building on Michigan Avenue in the Loop, received praise for its decision to include Bluetooth speakers and espresso machines in rooms, along with a well-stocked bar.

The hotel was also praised for the rooftop Chateau Carbide bar, along with the Venteux, a Parisian-style restaurant and oyster bar.

Finally, The Peninsula boasts Shanghai Terrace, an iconic Chinese restaurant, and outdoor seating provides views of the Magnificent Mile near Water Tower Place and other downtown attractions.

Four more hotels in Chicago received one key, including the Chicago Athletic Association, The Gwen, Viceroy Chicago and the Waldorf Astoria Chicago.

Two Indiana hotels received a Michelin Key, with Bottleworks Hotel and Ironworks Hotel in Indianapolis both receiving it. Michelin Keys “distinguish the most outstanding hotels,” according to the publication.
